Raising awareness among students about water pollution in irrigation schemes. Some common problems include the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, improper waste disposal, and discharge of untreated industrial effluents. The students were practically introduced to the method of water sampling and analysis for the determination of COD, BOD5, heavy metals, nitrites as well as the presence of pathogenic microorganisms in water and the interpretation of monitoring results in relation to the permitted values determined by FAO.
