H2H Foundation in cooperation with Art Kontakt and North Green Association, has published the third-phase for surface water quality monitoring report prepared within the framework of the Active Water II project. The monitoring was conducted in April 2026 and covered 13 strategic water bodies across the municipalities of Shkoder, Vau i Dejes, Belsh, Elbasan, Tirane, Durres, Shijak, Fier and Pustec.
Key findings highlight:
- pressures from urban wastewater, agriculture and recreational activities;
- bacteriological/faecal pollution in several water bodies;
- risks related to eutrophication, sedimentation and elevated mineralisation;
- the need for more frequent monitoring and coordinated interventions in critical areas.
The report presents practical recommendations to improve wastewater infrastructure, reduce agricultural pollution, establish vegetative buffer zones, strengthen institutional cooperation and increase transparency through the regular publication of monitoring data.
This report was produced within the framework of the #GreenAL project “Support to Civil Society Organizations 2024 -2027”, financed by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) with funds from the Swedish Government and implemented by Co-PLAN, Institute for Habitat Development in collaboration with VIS Albania and COSV – Cooperazione per lo Sviluppo.
