On July 22, 2026, within the framework of the RIVERCLEAN project, the third coastal cleanup activity was held at Lalëzi Public Beach, with the participation of volunteers from Rotary Club Tirana International and Horizons to Sustainability.
During the activity, volunteers joined efforts to contribute to the improvement of the environmental condition of the coastal area, by collecting and removing 226 kg of waste, divided as follows:
- 98.6 kg of plastic waste
- 127.4 kg of other waste
This amount shows the significant level of pollution that continues to affect our coastal and marine ecosystems.
In addition to cleaning the area, the activity aimed to raise awareness on:
- Reducing the use of single-use plastics to prevent waste from ending up in rivers and seas;
- Protecting watercourses that directly impact marine ecosystems;
- Promoting sustainable practices and behaviors in local communities to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment in the long term.
Every kilogram of waste removed from the environment represents a concrete step towards protecting nature. The activity proved that cooperation and voluntary engagement can bring tangible results and contribute to the preservation of our natural resources.
This activity is implemented within the framework of the RIVERCLEAN initiative, carried out by ETMI and Milieukontakt Albania, with the support of the European Union.
